Sizing and Fit

The elastic hem that keeps the fan air in means it sits a little shorter than a standard work shirt. We recommend going one size up.

Washing

Take out the fans and battery, then wash it like any work shirt. DO NOT use bleach or fabric softener, because they fade the hi-vis and stop the reflective tape from working.

Meets Aussie hi-vis standards

Certified for:

  • AS/NZS 1906.4:2023 (hi-vis materials)
  • AS/NZS 4602.1:2011 (day and night use)
  • AS 4399:2020 (UPF 50+ sun protection)

Battery and Charging

  • 16 hours on high. Enough for a full shift, with plenty to spare.
  • Charge overnight with any USB-C charger.
  • Charges your phone too. The battery doubles as a power bank. The fans won’t run as long if you use it for your phone.

Summer on an Aussie site is brutal

It’s 37 degrees. Your shirt’s soaked by smoko. By 1pm you’re cooked.

Jobs feel twice as hard and you get home spent.

Labourers, civil and road crews, traffic control, roofers, scaffolders. If you’re stuck in hi-vis all day, you deserve better than toughing it out.

Millions of Japanese workers already swear by them

In Japan, fan jackets are as normal on summer sites as steel caps. If they were a gimmick, they wouldn’t be standard kit for millions of workers.

But they’re jackets worn over your clothes, and they aren’t certified for Aussie sites. So we built a hi-vis work shirt with the fans built in.

What the science says about fan clothing

-20

heartbeats a minute

When working at 40°C heat, average heart rate dropped from 157 to 137

Beat ice-water vests

Cooled skin faster than vests with chilled water pumped through them

Frequently asked questions

How do I wash it?
Take out the fans and battery, then wash it like any work shirt. DO NOT use bleach or fabric softener, since these fade the hi-vis colour and wear down the reflective tape.
Is it loud?
Not really. On high, it is 66 decibels (about as loud as a dishwasher running). You can easily hold a conversation on all fan settings.
Is it OK on site?
Yes, it’s certified to AS/NZS 4602.1 Class D/N for hi-vis, with AS/NZS 1906.4 fabric and reflective tape, and rated UPF 50+ under AS 4399, so it’s suitable for most worksites, though always check your site’s specific PPE requirements.
How long does the battery last?
Up to 16 hours on high, so it’ll get you through a full shift with plenty to spare. It also doubles as a power bank for your phone, but charging your phone will cut into fan time.
Is it heavy? Where does the battery go?
The battery weighs 400g (the same as 2 iPhone 17s). There is a pocket inside the shirt to put the battery, or put in your pocket.
Will the puff-up get in the way?
No. The shirt puffs out a little because it's full of moving air, but it doesn't get in your way. The elastic waist keeps it snug at the bottom and the fans sit above your tool belt. You can still climb, bend and lift like normal.
Won’t it just blow hot air on me?
The air’s warm, but it still cools you. Try holding a dry hand under a hand dryer, then a wet one. The wet hand feels cooler, because moving air dries the water and takes heat with it.

The fans do the same with your sweat, drying it off your skin so it cools you instead of soaking your shirt. Studies show it still works well in 40°C heat.
What about dust?
There are no filters, so we don’t recommend it for very dusty jobs. On most sites it’s fine. The fans only pull in dust from right up close, within about 5cm of the intake. If some does get in, it blows through the shirt and out the neck and sleeves.

Running a crew this summer?

Every degree above 27°C drops manual productivity by 2% to 4%. By 35°C, output can plummet by up to 30%.

Heat fatigue slows jobs down and raises your WHS heat liability. The Fan Shirt keeps core temperatures down, satisfies your duty of care, and keeps your crew moving through the afternoon heat.
